Music today thrives on innovation, and few artists embody that spirit quite like Favour Abel. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, and now based in Houston, Texas, he’s spent six years creating a sound that breaks boundaries and challenges conventions. With a unique blend of pop, trap, dance, and punk, Favour’s music isn’t just something you hear—it’s something you feel.
In this interview, Favour Abel opens up about his journey, his creative process, and what sets him apart in an ever-evolving industry.
Q: Favour, tell us a little about your journey. Where are you from, and how did you get here?
I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but I’m based in Houston, Texas now. My music journey started six years ago, and it’s been a wild ride of growth, experimentation, and finding my unique sound.
Q: How would you describe your music? What’s the purpose behind it?
My music is all about energy and empowerment. I want people to feel better about themselves when they listen to my tracks, to feel energized and alive. It’s a blend of pop, trap, dance, and punk—a mix that reflects where music is heading.
Q: That’s quite the blend of genres. What makes your music stand out in today’s scene?
It’s the fusion of those elements. I like to think of it as genre-bending for a new era. Each track is designed to break boundaries and bring something fresh. It’s not just music you hear—it’s music you feel.
Q: What are your thoughts on the current music industry?
I think a lot of big companies that were founded to support artists have lost their way. The focus has shifted, and unfortunately, the people who suffer the most are the artists themselves. That’s why I’m committed to staying true to my vision and carving out my own space.
Q: Who or what inspires you?
Kanye West is a huge inspiration for me. His ability to push boundaries and create art that challenges norms really resonates with me.
Q: What have been some of your biggest milestones so far?
I’ve had the chance to perform at a festival and open for artists like RX Papi and Robb Banks. Those moments showed me the power of live performance and connecting with an audience.
Q: Let’s talk about your latest project. What can you tell us about “Big Brain”?
“Big Brain” is a track I’m really proud of. It features Yung Bambi and was produced by Hounds. The concept came from me, and my friend Joe, an amazing screenplay writer, helped bring it to life. The video was shot entirely in a garage and even features a real pig’s head. It’s intense, but that’s what makes it so impactful.
Q: Any standout moments from the recording or filming process?
The vibe on set was incredible. The set designers, Erica and her husband, created an environment that really helped us elevate the visuals. It was a one-location shoot, but we made it dynamic and memorable.
Q: What does the song mean to you personally?
It’s about perspective. There’s a quote by Socrates: “The more you know, the more you know.” That idea of expanding your understanding is central to the song.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the future?
On top of the world. I’m aiming for global impact with my music.
Q: If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Yves Tumor, Kanye West, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, and Mike Dean. That’s the dream team right there.
Q: Do you have any advice for young artists trying to break into the industry?
Believing in yourself is more than half the battle. Confidence and persistence are key.
Q: Anything else we should know about you?
I produce, I write songs, and I play the drums, piano, and guitar. I’m hands-on with my music, and I love being involved in every aspect of the process.
Q: Where can fans keep up with your journey?
They can check out my Linktree for everything—from my music to updates on what’s next.
